Entry: A list of a different cover. Friday, May 19, 2006

Nat does this thing called a Friday Five, which is like a Thursday Thirteen except it's a day late and eight dollars short. She did a very cool list of her fave record covers this week, an idea that inspired me to steal it. I wonder, did Nat have as much trouble as I did using just five?

In no particular order..... five of my favorite record covers.

1) The Mothers of Invention- Weasels Ripped My Flesh

This is just too weird not to love.

2) Peter Gabriel- 2nd album

PG is tops in the singer/songwriter catagory, IMO. See his video "Secret World Live" to appreciate what a performance genius he is.

3) Grateful Dead- Blues for Allah

I wish I could have found a larger pic so you could see the beautiful detail.

4) Peter Sinfield - Still

This painting is "The Big Friend" by Sulamith Wulfing. The cover shown is the rare blue cover. The more common cover was the same thing in pink.

5) Mom's Apple Pie - Mom's Apple Pie

This one is famous for the art more than the music. In fact, I have the album but I don't remember what it sounds like. It seems innocent enough at first glance, but take a good look at that missing slice of pie....

After the retailers caught on, they complained to the record company, who forced a change. The missing slice was covered with bricks and barbed wire, and Mom had a tear running down her cheek.

Very nice Joe. I'm really enjoying art on blogs at the moment. I haven't seen any of these before - believe it or not!

Love that Zappa cover, too! And I never heard of Mom's Apple Pie before. Now you 've got me wondering what it sounds like!

BFA rocks as album cover art. My all-time favorite GD icon, however, remains the Skeleton-and-Roses woodcut by Mouse. Speaking of Mouse, we got a print of the poster for last night's show signed by Mouse bringiong the total of art by Mouse that we own to three. I still have to call him to see if he-ll do the skeleton and roses on my tailgate.

I'll have to post the three pieces as soon as the new puter is up and running.

Weasels ripped my flesh!

Okay, I don't get the Mom's pie joke. Call me thick, but all I saw was what looked like drool or sperm spilling out of the pan. What's the joke?

Look past the "dlool" at the slice itself. Perhaps it resembles something you've seen before?

I guess if the album were called Mom's cherry pie it would be less ambiguous. Not to mention it's hard to make out any detail on the pic on the screen.

Or if they'd called it Mom's Hair Pie, you wouldn't need a picture at all. :-)

Hey man, why'd you delete comments???

Because the system screwed up and posted one of my comments four times. It was a huge pain to delete them, also, since the program, when editing comments, puts every other comment on a white background. Since the text is also white, this presents a challenge. I'm going to figure out how to change that, and change this crappy blue background while I'm at it.

It should only be MY extra comments that were deleted, but if anyone else's was, it was a result of that white on white color scheme, and was a mistake.
